Hi, I’m Take — born and raised in Fujinomiya. On this blog, I share practical, local tips so you can enjoy the area like a local.
Introduction
Happy New Year! It is a crisp, beautiful Friday, January 2nd. Here in Fujinomiya, we are enjoying a stunningly clear winter day with temperatures hovering around 9°C (48°F) this afternoon, though it felt much colder with the morning frost. The air is dry and sharp, which is exactly what we want for the best views of the mountain.
Highlights
- Visibility: 10/10 Today offers what we locals call “perfect” visibility. There isn’t a single cloud obstructing the peak, and the deep blue of the sky provides a high-contrast backdrop that makes the mountain look almost two-dimensional.
- Snow Condition: As you can see in the photo, the snow cap is thick and extends quite far down the slopes, which is typical for early January. The “snow line” is very clean right now. From our vantage point in Fujinomiya, the symmetry of the white hood is breathtaking.
Practical Tips for Visitors
- What to Wear: It is cold. Even if the sun feels warm on your face, the wind coming off the plateau is biting. I highly recommend a heavy down jacket, a scarf, and thermal layers (like Heattech). If you’re planning to take photos for a long time, don’t forget gloves!
- Best Time for Photos: Right now is the “Golden Season” for photography. While the midday sun (like in this photo) is bright and clear, arriving just after sunrise offers a beautiful pink hue on the snow.
- Location Note: The photo was taken near the Asagiri Plateau area. It’s much quieter than the 5th station (which is closed for the season anyway) and offers these wide-open field views.
