Hi, I’m Take — born and raised in Fujinomiya. On this blog, I share practical, local tips so you can enjoy the area like a local.
Introduction
Happy New Year’s Eve! Today is Wednesday, December 31st, and we are closing out the year with a spectacular view here in Fujinomiya. The sky is a brilliant, cloudless blue, and the air is crisp and cold—exactly what you’d expect for mid-winter in Japan. The temperature is currently hovering around 8°C (46°F), but the biting wind makes it feel a bit chillier.
Highlights
- Visibility: 10/10. You can see every ridge and crater clearly today!
- Snow Coverage: Mt. Fuji is wearing its iconic winter “white cap.” As you can see in the photo, the snow cover is heavy and extends quite far down the mountain’s slopes. This is the peak season for that classic, majestic look that everyone dreams of seeing.
The contrast between the snow-white peak and the deep blue sky is absolutely stunning today. Even from a local parking lot near the city center, the mountain looms large and powerful over our daily lives.
Practical Tips for Visitors
- What to Wear: It is very cold today, especially if you are standing still to take photos. I highly recommend a heavy down jacket, a scarf, and gloves. Heat-tech innerwear is a must for any local today!
- Best Timing: Winter mornings offer the most stable visibility. While it’s clear now, clouds often form around the base in the late afternoon, so try to get your shots before 2:00 PM.
- Local Spot: The photo was taken near some of our popular local spots like Coco’s and Sushiro. If you’re feeling chilled after your photo session, I suggest popping into a nearby restaurant for some hot ramen or Shizuoka oden to warm up your soul.
Conclusion
There is no better way to ring in the New Year than under the watchful eye of Fuji-san. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe celebration tonight! 🗻
