Asagiri Food Park — Taste the Best of Fujinomiya with a Grand View of Mt. Fuji

Food & Drink

Hi, I’m Take — born and raised in Fujinomiya. On this blog, I share practical, local tips so you can enjoy the area like a local.

Introduction

If you’re cruising through the Asagiri Plateau (Asagiri Kogen), there’s one spot you absolutely can’t miss: Asagiri Food Park.

It’s not just a typical roadside rest area. Think of it as a “foodie’s theme park” sitting right at the foot of Mt. Fuji. This park brings together five local craft factories where you can see, smell, and taste how our regional specialties are made. From fresh dairy to traditional sake, it’s a place where you can experience the “blessings of Fuji” all in one spot.

Highlights

1. Explore the 5 Food Factories

The park features five specialized buildings: a sake brewery, a confectionery, a tea shop, a sweet potato workshop, and a dairy factory. You can watch the artisans at work through large glass windows in each building.

  • Local Tip: My absolute “must-try” is the Asagiri Milk factory. You have to try their soft-serve ice cream! It’s made with fresh milk from cows grazing just minutes away, making it incredibly rich and creamy.

2. The Best “Front-Row” View of Mt. Fuji

Because the park is located on a vast, open plateau, the view of Mt. Fuji here is breathtaking and unobstructed. While famous tourist spots can get packed, this park offers plenty of space to breathe.

  • Local Secret: Walk toward the Drone Flight Area at the back of the park. It’s a wide-open grassy field where you can snap a perfect photo of Mt. Fuji without any buildings or power lines getting in the way.

3. Lucky Finds: Events and Food Trucks

The large central grass plaza often hosts lively events, especially on weekends.

  • How to enjoy it like a local: You might stumble upon craft markets, dog-themed festivals, or local food trucks serving up unique snacks. There’s always a sense of “I wonder what’s happening today?” when I visit. If you see the food trucks lined up, you’re in for a treat—it’s a great way to mingle with the locals!

Practical Tips for Visitors

  • Check the Official Schedule: To see if any special events or food trucks are scheduled during your visit, it’s best to check their website in advance.
  • Best Timing: I recommend arriving in the morning (between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM). This is when Mt. Fuji is most likely to be clear of clouds, and the shops are filled with freshly made bread and milk.
  • Access: While a car is most convenient, you can also take the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Loop Bus from Fujinomiya Station. It’s located right next to the “Michi-no-Eki Asagiri Kogen” (Roadside Station).
  • Cost: Entrance to the park and viewing the factories is Free. You only pay for what you choose to eat or buy.
  • What to Wear: Bring a light jacket, even in spring or summer. Because of the high elevation, the Asagiri Plateau is often 5°C (about 10°F) cooler than the city center!

Conclusion

Asagiri Food Park is a place where you can truly “taste” the environment of Mt. Fuji. The water, the soil, and the fresh air all come together in the food made here. If you happen to visit during an event, consider yourself very lucky! You’ll get to experience the warm, lively spirit of our local community. Enjoy the view and the flavors!
